Executive Summary – Findings of PAHAYAG VisMin Poll

LOVE AND CARE OF LEADERS

Leader who displays love, care, and concern for country

The vast majority of respondents (86.2%) indicated that President Duterte is the top official who displays LOVE, CONCERN, and CARE for the country. President Duterte topped all three categories, with Vice President Robredo as the consistent but distant second place finisher. The proportion of respondents indicating that the President displays LOVE, CONCERN, and CARE for the country is higher in Mindanao than Visayas.

The top three actions that display LOVE for country are: helping those affected by calamities, increasing the budget of public hospitals to provide complete health services, and doing projects to help the poor. Meanwhile, the top three actions to display CARE for the country are: actively leading regulations pertaining to care of environment, respecting the symbols of the country, and taking care of his health so that he can perform his responsibilities to his family and countrymen.

Aspirations of Citizens

The vast majority of respondents indicated that they are aspiring for a simple and comfortable life – as opposed to a well-off or rich life. The proportion who aspire for a simple and comfortable life is especially high in high poverty regions such as Eastern Visayas and BARMM.

Top issues to be addressed by government

The top concerns among respondents include ECONOMY, JOBS, and PRICES.

It is of note that approximately 60% of respondents indicated that JOBS/JOB GENERATION is among the top 3 issues. In contrast, issues that deal with changing the constitution or form of government are at the bottom of the list of issues.

Solutions to solve these issues

The numbers suggest that many respondents expect the government to undertake social welfare and direct transfer programs for the benefit of poor people. PRO POOR PROJECTS were the top solution chosen, followed by TAME INFLATION and PROTECTION OF POOREST FAMILIES. Aside from economic issues, battling crime, drugs, and corruption were also top-of-mind solutions.
