NCR COVID-19 Survey 2: ~80% want ECQ to end by May 31
MANILA – Almost 80% of the 1,000 Metro Manila residents aged 18-70 who participated in the second run of the NCR COVID-19 Online Panel Survey conducted by PUBLiCUS Asia Inc. want the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) to end no later than May 31, 2020.
31.2% of respondents interviewed between April 13-18, 2020 want the ECQ to end on April 30, the date when the ECQ extension is set to expire. 32% of respondents said they would prefer the ECQ to end sometime between May 1 and May 30, while 14.6% want the ECQ to be lifted on May 31.
Only 22.2% of respondents said they would prefer the ECQ to end sometime after May 31.
“These results suggest that strong public support for the ECQ among Metro Manila residents will only last for another two to six weeks at most,” said Mr. Aureli Sinsuat, PUBLiCUS Executive Director and spokesperson.
Sinsuat noted that an overwhelming 84.2% of respondents continue to approve of the Luzon-wide Extended Community Quarantine, an increase of 2.2% compared to the April 2-6 survey results.
“The ECQ has been extremely popular among NCR COVID-19 Survey participants as a concrete means of stopping the spread of COVID-19. However, the data suggest that the patience of Metro Manila residents for restrictive quarantine policies may soon wear thin,” Sinsuat said.
“It appears that the government needs to begin crafting a transparent, science-based decision tool to identify low-risk areas where restrictive quarantine measures can be lifted without endangering public health and welfare,” he added.
NCR COVID-19 Online Panel Survey is an independent non-commissioned tracking survey designed by PUBLiCUS Asia Inc. and VOX Opinion Research (VOX). The survey data was processed and analyzed by VOX, the in-house strategic research arm of PUBLiCUS.
The survey aims to gauge public opinion and perceptions on the following key indicators: Living Standards and Needs during the ECQ; National Government Performance; Local Government Performance; Existing/Proposed COVID-19 Policies.
The online fieldwork for the first run (Apr. 2-6, 2020) and the second run (Apr. 13-18, 2020) of the survey was conducted in partnership with Lightspeed Research/Kantar (Singapore). Lightspeed provided an online panel of 1,000 Metro Manila residents aged 18-70 from its pool of 100,000 Philippine panelists. The number of respondents per city was distributed proportionally based on official population data.
Lightspeed is now the Asia-Pacific headquarters of Kantar, a leading firm in the global data industry with a panel reach of 88 million respondents in 90 markets worldwide according to its website.
