NCR COVID-19 Survey 3: Valenzuela, Pasig, Manila, Marikina, Taguig Top 5 in Mayor/LGU Approval
MANILA – The third run results of the NCR COVID-19 Online Panel Survey conducted by PUBLiCUS Asia, Inc. in partnership with Kantar show that respondents residing in Valenzuela, Pasig, Manila, Marikina, and Taguig most strongly approve of the job performance of their respective mayors and city governments in combating COVID-19.
92% of Valenzuela City residents who were amog the 1,000 Metro Manila residents aged 18-70 interviewed between May 5-8 2020 approve or strongly approve of the manner in which their mayor and city government are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is the highest approval rating in the May survey and the top overall approval rating among all Mayors and LGUs across all three survey runs.
The second to fourth-highest approval ratings were registered among residents of Pasig (83%), Manila (76%), Marikina (69%), and Taguig (68%).
The mayors of the top-ranked LGUs, whose names were not listed on the questionnaire answered by respondents, are Rex Gatchalian (Valenzuela), Vico Sotto (Pasig), Isko Moreno Domagoso (Manila), Marcy Teodoro (Marikina), and Lino Cayetano (Taguig).
“The best case practices employed by these high-performing local chief executives and city governments should be studied and emulated by other LGUs and government institutions working to beat COVID-19,” said Mr. Aureli Sinsuat, PUBLiCUS Executive Director and spokesperson.
Overall, almost half of respondents (49.6%) approve or strongly approve of the responses of their respective mayors and city governments to the COVID-19 pandemic. 26.8% disapprove or strongly disapprove of the performance of their mayor and city government, while 23.6% neither approve nor disapprove.
Sinsuat said the 5.9% increase in approval and 6.4% decrease in disapproval compared to the April 13-18 run of the survey “suggest a significant increase in approval of NCR local government responses to COVID-19 among the panel population over the past couple of weeks.”
