
PBBM, VP Duterte’s ratings remain stable – PAHAYAG Survey
Manila, July 3, 2023 – The PAHAYAG 2023 Second Quarter poll shows that the approval and trust ratings of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio remain stable.
President Marcos’ approval rating increased slightly to 62% from 60% last quarter. The Visayas, Catholic, and Government Workers segments showed significant increases in approval. Vice President Duterte maintained her approval rating at 67% and enjoyed overwhelming support in Mindanao at 79%. Approval ratings for the President and the Vice President dropped significantly in North Central Luzon (NCL) and among the non-Catholic population.
Additionally, the poll shows the trust ratings of President Marcos Jr. and Vice President Duterte-Carpio slightly decline to 54% and 61%, respectively. It remains to be ‘statistically stable.’ The results also highlight significant drops in trust ratings among specific segments of the population. Among individuals aged 18-24, President Marcos Jr.’s trust rating decreased to 45%, while Vice President Duterte-Carpio’s trust rating dropped to 47% within the same age group. For Non-Catholics, Vice President Duterte-Carpio’s trust rating declined to 59%. Among families with overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), President Marcos Jr.’s trust rating decreased to 54%.
The poll also highlights the approval ratings for House Speaker Martin Romualdez, with notable shifts in public opinion. The House Speaker gains more opposition during this quarter of 19% from 15% last Quarter, particularly in the National Capital Region (NCL), and to some extent in the Southern Luzon (SL) and Mindanao (MIN) regions, but maintains a steady overall approval rating of 42% and trust rating of 32%.
Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri maintained a stable approval rating of 48% in Q2, which remained consistent with the 47% rating in Q1. Similarly, his trust rating remained unchanged at 37% from the previous quarter’s 38%. Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo also experienced a stable approval rating of 38% in Q2, maintaining the same rating as in Q1, which was 39%. Additionally, his trust rating remained consistent at 32%.
In terms of individual qualities and characteristics, President Marcos Jr. is distinguished for his humility and eloquence, which he shares with Senate President Zubiri. Vice President Duterte, on the other hand, is strongly associated with bravery, resonating with the public.
Furthermore, the two legislative chiefs and Chief Justice Gesmundo are expected to uphold the law, with Senate President Zubiri perceived slightly more as fair-minded and just compared to the other officials.
Overall, the report indicates a relatively stable trust and approval rating for government officials and agencies, reflecting the public’s ongoing commitment to the welfare of the country. As the nation moves forward, these insights provide valuable information for policymakers and decision-makers to better serve the needs and expectations of the Filipino people.
The PAHAYAG 2023 Second Quarter Survey (PQ2) is an independent and non- commissioned survey conducted by PUBLiCUS Asia Inc. between 7-12 June 2023. It is a nationwide purposive survey with 1,500 respondents randomly drawn from a market research panel of over 200,000 Filipinos maintained by PureSpectrum, a US-based panel marketplace with a multinational presence with respondents, and distributed across five geographical areas: National Capital Region (NCR), North Central Luzon (NCL), South Luzon (SL), Visayas (Vis), and Mindanao (Min). Only registered Filipino voters were included in the sample, ensuring that the results accurately represent the sentiments of the voting population.
